SINCE SEPTEMBER IS TOMORROW

September 2010 will mark our two year anniversary here at Skewed!

Our first issue was born September 15, 2008, and since then many have come and, dare I say, we’ve grown quite a bit. For nostalgia’s sake, here are some of my favorite pages from SKEWED 01, my first crack at laying out an issue! Download the entire issue again and enjoy.

DOCUMENTING A MAN-MADE DISASTER | Kris Krug

In an attempt to shed more light on the devastation of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Kris Krüg has been more than active on the internet and at the scene. With a Flickr photostream full of sad but beautiful photographs, an informative blog post and constant updates, Krug covers an inspiring expedition of documentation.

Static Photography photographer Kris Krüg and TED event photographer Duncan Davidson, along with the help of Static Photography studio manager Danielle Sipple, will travel to the Gulf of Mexico in attempts to photograph what has yet to be photographed.”

WE’RE BACK!

Sorry for the lack of posts this week, we had some Internet issues. All is patched up now, and we’ve got lots coming up. Stay tuned!

PRINTING WITH LETTERPRESS

An excellent explanation and slideshow on the art of letterpress, featured as part of the Disappearing Acts series from the Guardian. Other slideshows include calligraphy, binding books and making a wheel.

LOMOGRAPHY SPINNER 360

Lomography introduces their new fully mechanic Spinner 360° panoramic camera, using standard 35mm film, it can create up to 8 full 360° panoramas on a 36-exposure film.

Take the Lomography Spinner 360° in one hand, pull the cord with the other and release it. In a split second the camera spins 360° around its own axis and records everything that’s around you on a frame more than 4 times longer than a conventional landscape picture.

Definitely going on our wish list!

STRANGELOVE | Love Is Strange

Strangelove Text is a font inspired by the title sequence of Stanley Kubrick’s movie Dr. Strangelove. The original titles were designed by Pablo Ferro, who is one of the most acclaimed film title designers, especially famous for his hand-drawn lettering. The font was originally designed for an exhibition of the same topic. The Bombs weight includes illustrations referring to scenes from the film.
