THE LAB MAGAZINE | issue 02

Well hello there reader,

Have YOU seen The Lab Magazine yet? If not, then you’d better hurry up and get familiar with all 99 pages of it. Tons of great content for the soul, the spleen, the mind, and yes, the eyes. Flip, read, obsess. It’s all there. Following the plentiful Issues 00 and 01, Issue 02 is now out online and in stores.

Rashida Jones, Nicolas Stroller, Florence + The Machine and lots more goodies, waiting in there for your gentle gaze and occasionally trembling hands. Don’t leave them hanging!

And for some bonus info on the super troopers running this tight ship, check out a Skewed-style interview from our time machine, right here.

DOCUMENTING A MAN-MADE DISASTER | Kris Krug

In an attempt to shed more light on the devastation of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, Kris Krüg has been more than active on the internet and at the scene. With a Flickr photostream full of sad but beautiful photographs, an informative blog post and constant updates, Krug covers an inspiring expedition of documentation.

Static Photography photographer Kris Krüg and TED event photographer Duncan Davidson, along with the help of Static Photography studio manager Danielle Sipple, will travel to the Gulf of Mexico in attempts to photograph what has yet to be photographed.”

ACCOUNTS BY LORD LOXLEY | Now Online

Lord Loxley posts his first book in a blog format for free at lordloxley.tumblr.com. Great photographs tied to words and snippets of different experiences.

“IN ACCOUNTS, MY DEBUT BOOK OF TALES AND PHOTOGRAPHS, I SHARE MY PERSPECTIVE OF LIFE IN THE STRANGER LANE. KEEPING THE PAST LINGERING IN THE PRESENT, THIS COLLECTION TRULY REFLECTS THE SUBSTANCE OF A MOMENT AND TOUCHES ON SEVERAL ELEMENTS OF HUMAN EXPERIENCE.”

Jag, Vancouver 2007 – a period of unrestrained indulgence in an activity, spree or binge.

LOMOGRAPHY SPINNER 360

Lomography introduces their new fully mechanic Spinner 360° panoramic camera, using standard 35mm film, it can create up to 8 full 360° panoramas on a 36-exposure film.

Take the Lomography Spinner 360° in one hand, pull the cord with the other and release it. In a split second the camera spins 360° around its own axis and records everything that’s around you on a frame more than 4 times longer than a conventional landscape picture.

Definitely going on our wish list!

NOW WHAT? | A Call for All Art Supporters

This June, Make Art History will be presenting a public symposium on the current budget cuts to BC’s Cultural Sector and the need for the development of a more sustainable art system.

In March 2010, the BC Liberal government has withdrew much of its support to the arts, culture, and heritage in BC by cutting the BC Arts Council Budget by more than 50% and Gaming Grants for arts and culture by approximately 50% in this year’s 2010/11 budget. This is a sector that employs 650,000 people, twice the number employed in either forestry or agriculture.

Show your support by attending the event on June 25, 2010, help them spread the word and rally all supporters for the arts for this cause!

The panelists will address the sustainability of our art system and the need for the development of new emerging artist economies.  The 2010 panelists are:
Bruce Haden – President of the Board, The Contemporary Art Gallery Vancouver
David Jordan – Executive Director of the Vancouver International Fringe Festival
Kate Armstrong - Artist, writer and independent curator, instructor at Emily Carr University
Amir Ali Alibhai – Executive Director for the Alliance for Arts and Culture
Marcus Youssef – Artistic Producer for Neworld Theatre
Spencer Chandra Herbert – MLA, Official Opposition Critic Tourism, Culture and the Arts
Keith Higgins – Administrative Coordinator Helen Pitt Gallery/Honorary Board Member Art Speak.

INTERVIEW | The Lab Magazine

They Can Turn Left: The Lab Magazine

Two guys just having a good time, having a good time. Guy #1 Tyler Close Justin. Guy #2 Power Mcdade Regimbal Jeremy. Stemmed out of their successful collaboration as The Studio Movement, the newest love child of this epic bromance, The Lab Magazine, has been going strong for a few months now, with another issue on the verge of being released. An Andy Warhol vibe fuels the fire, and diverse interview subjects, such as Chin Injeti and Frank W.Ockenfels, have already brought it to the attention of some legendary figures such as Christopher Plummer. They inspire us, they inspire the art scene and they might do it for you too, esp if you drink ‘the wine’. But first…
