60 SECONDS | Patrik and Sneprinsessen

This year’s 60 Seconds Short Film Festival was held  from the 15th till the 20th of March, with 138 contributors. The festival is an open competition for directors and film enthusiasts in Denmark and abroad. With an open theme, the filmmakers had 60 seconds to make an impression on the travelers in the Copenhagen Metro, where the ten best films were shown during the festival.

Click on the stills below to watch the winner of the audience award, Patrik and Sneprinsessen, by L. Nejrup, J. Dammert, S.E. Bjørke and J. Lundbye.

AT TIFF | Woman Waiting

Congrats to our friends Antoine Bourges and William Fritzberg for having their film, Woman Waiting, included in the Toronto International Film Festival 2010, Short Cuts Canada program. The film is playing September 13 and 14 at Jackman Hall. Check out the program for more info.

SWARM 11 | 2010

We’re loving the dynamically generating online festival guide for this year’s SWARM 11, making direct use of sites like Twitter and Google Maps.

Following some basic guidelines, galleries and venue participants can ‘tag’ themselves automatically into SWARM’s online listings. Similar to pulling fan Twitter posts using a #SWARM11 tag, the website pulls feeds with another tag specifically into the list of events and generates venue maps.

Swarm is an annual festival of artist run culture organized by the Pacific Association of Artist Run Centres.
Don’t miss it this year: Thursday September 9th and Friday September 10th, 2010.

Submission samples over at the blog. Project on the left by Dominic, and  on the right, by Lukas Richarz.

ADVICE FOR DESIGN STUDENTS | From Frank Chimero

Click here to read more from what Frank Chimero had to say in response to the question: What advice would you give to a graphic design student?

“Take things away until you cry. Accept most things, and reject most of your initial ideas. Print it out, chop it up, put it back together. When you’re aimlessly pushing things around on a computer screen, print it out and push it around in real space. Change contexts when you’re stuck. Draw wrong-handed and upside down and backwards. Find a good seat outside.”

Make sure you take wander around his site and read more from his blog, lots of Q&A’s and great tidbits (and I mean tidbits in the most respectful way).
